MMS Cell Phone and Smart Watch Policy
Cell phones and smart watches must be off and in lockers during the school day. This includes hallways, the cafeteria, and other common areas. If a cell phone is seen or sounds while in the building, it is subject to confiscation to be secured in the main office. Students are reminded daily via Canvas announcement and P.A. announcement of this policy. MMS/SOMSD are not responsible for lost or stolen cell phones and smart watches. Board policy #5516 confirms that Headphones/earbuds may not be worn in the building nor should they be visible during the school day. Earbuds, airpods and wireless/wired headphones may not be worn in the hallways.
***Any MMS student with a cell phone or smart watch (watch with calling/texting capability) on their person will be required to have a parent/caregiver pick up the device from school before 3:50pm.
We ask for consistent partnership from our caregivers in upholding this developmentally appropriate policy to allow for student focus on learning, minimize screen time, and minimize conflict that arises through social media. Please use MMS land lines to contact your child during the school day. Please do not contact your child via text, watch and phone during school hours.
