Universal Breakfast Now Available at MMS
Universal Breakfast will be available in all SOMSD schools, providing every student with the opportunity to start their day with breakfast at school.
This expansion reflects the commitment to supporting the whole child and ensuring that our students have access to the resources they need to be ready to learn, grow, and thrive each day.
Breakfast will be available in the MMS cafeteria from 7:45-8:15am. Importantly, all students are welcome to participate, regardless of whether they qualify for free or reduced-price meals.
Families can decide whether school breakfast is the right option for their child based on their individual needs and morning routines.
Please note that there will be a cost for students who do not qualify for free meals. Additional information regarding breakfast costs, meal eligibility, and payment options will be available through our Food Services Department.

Bags Are Back!

After carefully listening to the concerns that have been raised, I want to share an important update. The bookbag ban will be removed, and students will be permitted to carry a string bag during the school day, including when moving between classes.
I recognize that our students need to be able to comfortably and responsibly carry the items they need as they move throughout their school day. I also understand the importance of maintaining safe and orderly learning environments, and I believe this adjustment provides a thoughtful balance.
The one exception is that students will not be permitted to bring bags into the lunchroom.
Library Volunteers Needed
Parent volunteers need to support our students and staff in the MMS Library this school year! Volunteer assistance helps keep our library vibrant, organized, and welcoming for all students. Sign-up now through Monday, Sept 18
Volunteer Details:

Time: 9:00 AM – 10:30 AM on designated days.

Frequency: The frequency will vary based on the day of the week due to the A/Day B/Day schedule.

Tasks Include: Creating bulletin boards and book displays, shelving and weeding books, processing new materials, performing inventory scans, and assisting with special projects as needed. (Note: Spring Book Fair volunteer opportunities will be shared on a separate schedule).
District Policy & Background Checks: Per District Policy 9180, parents volunteering 6 or fewer times per year do not require fingerprinting. If you plan to volunteer more than 6 times across the district this year, fingerprinting is required. Please review the district’s Fingerprinting Instructions & Link.

YouthNet Fall Clubs Registration Opens on Friday, September 11
YouthNet registration will be available on September 10. Clubs are being finalized now, so stay tuned for the upcoming brochure and registration form. More information to come.

District Chromebook Distribution Information
Chromebooks & Technology Agreement
Students will be assigned their Chromebooks this week. Before your child’s scheduled Chromebook sign-out date, please make sure you have completed the SOMSD Technology Agreement.

It's our pleasure to welcome (and welcome BACK) our MMS Families, Students and Staff. We hope it's been a great first few days of school!
There are still several critical open positions on the HSA, including the Co-President role. It's a great way to get involved, so grab a friend and take this role on! You will have support and guidance from the previous co-presidents!
