Presidents Council Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Committee

Diversity means having a range of people with various racial, ethnic, socioeconomic, and cultural backgrounds and various lifestyles, experience, and interests.

Equity ensures everyone has access to the same treatment, opportunities and advancement. Equity aims to identify and eliminate barriers that prevent the full participation of certain groups.

Equity means recognizing that we do not all start from the same place and must acknowledge as well as make adjustments to fix imbalances.

Inclusion builds a culture of belonging by actively inviting contribution and participation of all people.

You can reach out to Myani Lawson, our DEI/Advocacy Liaison, at myani.lawson@maplewoodmiddleschool.org with any concerns, feedback and ideas.

Earth Day Cleanup 4/22, 9am-12pm

Did you know that MMS has a fantastic courtyard and an area with raised garden beds?

The SpringFest Committee is looking for volunteers to help cleanup these and other areas of the outdoor space at MMS before SpringFest.

We are planning several Spring Fest activities that will beautify the MMS campus, and we need your help. We’ll mainly be pulling weeds and raking leaves - easy gardening tasks. It won’t take too long to get this work done, but it will make a huge difference.

Cell Phone Use During School Hours

Students are reminded of the following message daily during morning announcements and on the Canvas page:

  • Please be reminded that personal/non school-issued devices are not permitted and must remain stored in your locker all day along with headphones/wireless headphones and backpacks.  Period 1 teachers please take a moment now to be sure these items are stored appropriately by all students.

MMS parents and caregivers, we ask that you reinforce this message at home by not communicating with your child during the day using a device that must be stored in the locker.  If your time permits, we encourage you to monitor your child's phone to be sure you don't see phone activity during school hours between 8:20-3:14pm!
