Get Involved with the MMS HSA

One of the best ways to stay connected is to VOLUNTEER! Meet new people and get to know more about middle school. View the Volunteer Interest Form to see available opportunities and sign up to volunteer. Spend as little or as much time as you like!
Thank You for Helping our MMS Staff Get a Healthy Start
THANK YOU to all who donated tissues, hand sanitizer, or funds for our MMS Staff. Thanks to a generous donation from the South Orange Elks, we were able to provide ALL STAFF with supplies.

Upcoming SEPAC Events

SEPAC SOMA is all about building community, so we love in-person opportunities to connect! We're hosting a table at two upcoming community events, so please stop by with questions or to say hello.
And, at our next Cup Chats gathering on 10/15, the three SOMSD BOE candidates will join us to hear your stories and answer questions.
More info about these events and the Special Education Parent Advisory Committee.

REMINDER: Back to School Night is THIS THURSDAY, 9/21

Back to School Night is Thursday, September 21st at 7:00pm. It is also a 4-hour day for students (12:30pm dismissal). Lunch will not be served.
Please see the attached Schedule for Back to School Night.
Stay tuned as you will receive a grade specific schedule with space for you and your child to write down the room to go to for each time block.
SEPAC SOMA

SEPAC is the Special Education Parent Advisory Committee for SOMSD. It is a state-mandated group that advises the district on issues we're hearing about from our school communities and collaborates with SOMSD on how to best support students with IEPs/504s and their families. SEPAC has topic-based meetings and informal gatherings (Cup Chats) each month so there are lots of opportunities to connect with other special education parents and caregivers.
This year's MMS SEPAC Liaisons are Amanda Harris and Malia Herman. They can be reached at sepac@maplewoodmiddleschool.org
Join the DEI/Advocacy Committee

Diversity means having a range of people with various racial, ethnic, socioeconomic, and cultural backgrounds and various lifestyles, experience, and interests.
Equity ensures everyone has access to the same treatment, opportunities and advancement. Equity aims to identify and eliminate barriers that prevent the full participation of certain groups.
Equity means recognizing that we do not all start from the same place and must acknowledge as well as make adjustments to fix imbalances.
Inclusion builds a culture of belonging by actively inviting contribution and participation of all people.
You can reach out to this year's MMS HSA DEI Advocacy Liaison, Myani Lawson, at myani.lawson@maplewoodmiddleschool.org with any concerns, feedback and ideas or sign up to join the committee on our Volunteer Interest Form.
