SOMA Shares Coat Drive

SOMA Shares is collecting freshly laundered, gently used baby to teen-styled/sized winter coats, snow boots and snow pants. We will also collect new hats and gloves. Drop off at 6 Oberlin Street in Maplewood now until December 17.

SOMSD Parenting Center Toy Drive

The SOMSD’s Parenting Center Annual Holiday Toy Drive is underway! This year, we are once again counting on you to help us bring the spirit of the holidays to those in need in our community. The easiest and safest way to contribute is by donating in one of the following ways:

• On-line tax-deductive contribution to https://gofund.me/6d48284e (or search SOMSD Annual Holiday Toy Drive on gofundme.com)
• Drop off a new toy in a toy drop-off bin at any one of our District elementary schools from NOW - December 16 (only new toys)
• Mail a check payable to SOMSD Parenting Center 525 Academy Street, Maplewood, NJ 07040
• Buy one, donate one at local stores Spark House, Paper Hat, Toy Division and Words.

Toy donation drop-offs are being accepted from NOW - December 16 at drop-off toy bins at all District elementary schools.  We are requesting only new toy purchase donations (please no gift wrapping).  

Money raised will be used to purchase from local stores that could use our support, and as always, 100% of the money donated will be used to buy gifts. Your continued generosity will help to ensure that all our SOMA families feel the joy of the holiday season.

6th Grade Social 11/18

Save the Date, the 6th Grade Social is Friday, November 18 from 2:45-4:30pm in the gym and cafeteria. The theme is Your Favorite Decade and students are encouraged to dress is the style of their favorite decade (including now).

MMS First Annual Walkathon Update

The First Annual MMS Walk-a-thon was a HUGE SUCCESS! THANK YOU to our MMS Community for EXCEEDING our initial goal and raising $20,000. Students walked, ran, skipped, hopped and danced to student-selected tunes (check out the playlist) while raising money and HAVING FUN! Huge thanks to Walkathon Chair, Kristy Lynch for spearheading this event and thanks to our building leaders, PE teachers, parent volunteers and HSA board for support in making this event happen!

MMS First Annual Walkathon 10/27, 10/28

Save the Dates! MMS FIrst Annual Walk-a-thon is 10/27 and 10/28!  

We are happy to announce that MMS students will participate in the first annual Walk-a-thon! The Walk-a-thon will take place in Memorial Park on Thursday, October 27 and Friday, October 28 during PE times. 

All students participate in this FUNdraiser that generates school spirit while raising funds at the same time! 

Our fundraising goal is $15,000 (approximately $20/student) and WE NEED YOUR HELP!

Please register now to help the MMS HSA raise as much as we can to help cover costs of grade level field trips and events, teacher appreciation, school supplies, student agendas, ice cream socials, 8th grade graduation, and author visits.

Help our MMS PE staff, students and HSA by volunteering during our first annual Walk-A-Thon! Sign up here. 

Volunteers Duties:

• set up cones for lap routes
• provide water to participants
• track laps
• motivate our students as they run/walk
• assist PE teachers with any additional needs

Report to Memorial Park on Baker Street, by the Memorial Library (look for the balloons)  

All money raised from the Walk-a-thon will be used to enhance our grade-level experiences for ALL! THANK YOU!
