MMS Orchestra & Band Concerts

The MMS Orchestra Concert is Wednesday, January 25 at 7pm in the MMS Auditorium. Concert dress for performers is all black or black on bottom/white on top. Black/Dark shoes.  6th grade arrive by 6:20pm, 7th grade arrive by 6:30pm, 8th grade arrive by 6:40pm. 

The MMS Band Concert is Thursday, January 26 at 7pm in the MMS Auditorium. Concert dress for performers is all black with your choice of shoes. Students should arrive at 6:30pm.

Please note that MASKS ARE REQUIRED for both performances. 

Admission is FREE, but donations are always accepted. Please visit the MMS HSA table outside the auditorium to donate. 

SEPAC January Meeting 1/24

HIGH ANXIETY: High school can be hard to handle in the best of times and, after the events of the last few years, even more teens are struggling. Join SEPAC SOMA on Tuesday 1/24 at 7:30pm to learn more about mental health in the teenage years and the support programs available at Columbia High School. Click here to join this meeting on Zoom.

MMS PeloFUND Ride

Save the Date! Join the MMS HSA and community members for the annual MMS PeloFUNd Ride on February 12, 2023 (aka SuperBowl Sunday). This event will be a virtual race/ride anytime from 7am - 2pm. 

Use your Peloton bike, Peloton App or bike, run, or walk outside. Registration is a suggested fee of $25 along with completion of the Google form. Additional fundraising $ amount per mile is encouraged and appreciated. Peloton class list will be posted a couple days prior.

Math 4 Ice Cream

Each week in January, all MMS students will get a chance to solve some clever math puzzles on a Google Form.  Each correct answer you give earns you a raffle ticket.  And then on Friday, we will draw a winning ticket from each grade. Winners get a $20 gift certificate to Village Ice Cream.  You can find the MATH 4 ICE CREAM PUZZLES each week linked on your Canvas dashboard.

End of 2nd Quarter is 2/3

Quarter 2 ends on Friday, February 3, 2023. Reminder to the students to us their Conference Period, visit their teachers and compete overdue work. Parents can expect report cards to be released February 10th.

SEPAC January Meeting 1/9/23

Middle School & Mental Health: The t(w)een years can be tough and many of our middle schoolers are struggling. There are ways to help, though, so we hope you'll plan to join SEPAC SOMA on Monday, January 9 @ 7:30pm to learn more about anxiety in middle school, including signs of stress, strategies at home and how to get help at MMS and SOMS.

Facilities Updates and Long-Term Closures

Our Buildings and Grounds department, school business administrator, external contractors, and other personnel have been on site at MMS throughout the week monitoring the repairs on the water damage in our library and lower gym as the result of a large leak over the winter holiday.  We thank them for their work addressing this facility issue.  

The lower gym and library remain sealed off and inaccessible for students and staff during repairs.  Unfortunately, the lower gym will be closed for the remainder of the year.  Our Physical Education teaching team, supported by their supervisor Ms. Monfasani, is hard at work making adjustments to the curriculum and will modify upcoming fitness units using the upper gym.

All current room relocations remain the same with Mr. Kessler’s 8th grade Geometry courses meeting in the cafeteria and room 165.  Our Instructional Technology team has ordered portable technology to further support Mr. Kessler’s courses during this transition period.

The team aims to open the library during this school year and we will update you when we have a definitive time frame for reopening.

As a reminder, no space will be reopened for staff and students until cleared by our environmental consultant and the office of Buildings and Grounds.
